“ If you are the Messiah,” they said,“ tell us.” Jesus answered,“ If I tell you, you will not believe me,

If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

They said,“ If You are the Messiah, tell us.” But He said to them,“ If I do tell you, you will not believe.

Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

and said,“ If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them,“ If I tell you, you will not believe,

The Jews therefore came around him and said to him,“ How long will you hold us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”Jesus answered them,“ I told you, and you don’t believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me.But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you.

He answered them,“ I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”They insulted him and said,“ You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

“ You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.I don’t receive glory from men.But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?“ Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.

But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him,“ I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.”Jesus said to him,“ You have said it. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky.”Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying,“ He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.What do you think?” They answered,“ He is worthy of death!”Then they spat in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,saying,“ Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

and said to him,“ Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”Jesus answered them,“ Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke,“ Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again,“ He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.Nevertheless even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’t confess it, so that they wouldn’t be put out of the synagogue,for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.

But he stayed quiet, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”Jesus said,“ I am. You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of the sky.”The high priest tore his clothes, and said,“ What further need have we of witnesses?You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?” They all condemned him to be worthy of death.Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with fists, and to tell him,“ Prophesy!” The officers struck him with the palms of their hands.As Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the maids of the high priest came,

“ He said to him,‘ If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’”
