『爾苟為基督、請明以見告。』耶穌曰：『予告爾、爾不信也。

“ If you are the Messiah,” they said,“ tell us.” Jesus answered,“ If I tell you, you will not believe me,

“ If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them,“ If I tell you, you will not believe,

and they said,“ Tell us, are you the Messiah?” But he replied,“ If I tell you, you won’t believe me.

They said,“ If you are the Messiah, tell us.” But he said to them,“ If I do tell you, you will not believe.

“ If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them,“ If I tell you, you will by no means believe.

If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

They said,“ If You are the Messiah, tell us.” But He said to them,“ If I do tell you, you will not believe.

Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

and said,“ If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them,“ If I tell you, you will not believe,

“ If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them,“ If I tell you, you won’t believe,

The Jews then surrounded Him and began saying to Him,“ How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”Jesus answered them,“ I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep.

He answered them,“ I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?”They spoke abusively to him and said,“ You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that testify about Me;and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.I do not receive glory from people;but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.How can you believe, when you accept glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have put your hope.For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot listen to My word.You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.But because I say the truth, you do not believe Me.

But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him,“ I place You under oath by the living God, to tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.”Jesus* said to him,“ You have said it yourself. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”Then the high priest tore his robes and said,“ He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? See, you have now heard the blasphemy;what do you think?” They answered,“ He deserves death!”Then they spit in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,and said,“ Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?”

and said to Him,“ Are You the Coming One, or are we to look for someone else?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Go and report to John what you hear and see:those who are blind receive sight and those who limp walk, those with leprosy are cleansed and those who are deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

But though He had performed so many signs in their sight, they still were not believing in Him.This happened so that the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke would be fulfilled:“ Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,“ He has blinded their eyes and He hardened their heart, so that they will not see with their eyes and understand with their heart, and be converted, and so I will not heal them.”These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke about Him.Nevertheless many, even of the rulers, believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, so that they would not be excommunicated from the synagogue;for they loved the approval of people rather than the approval of God.

But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and* said to Him,“ Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”And Jesus said,“ I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”Tearing his clothes, the high priest* said,“ What further need do we have of witnesses?You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death.And some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him,“ Prophesy!” Then the officers took custody of Him and slapped Him in the face.And while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the slave women of the high priest* came,

But he said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”
