The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.

And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

Thus saith Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of Jehovah that is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.

He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.

And with him they crucify two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left.

But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: The abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; They did tear me, and ceased not:Like the profane mockers in feasts, They gnashed upon me with their teeth.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother’s children.For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them.They that sit in the gate talk of me; And I am the song of the drunkards.

Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it: Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

Now shalt thou gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us; they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

Like as many were astonished at thee( his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),

And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it on him;and they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his garments. And they lead him out to crucify him.

And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.In like manner also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

And now I am become their song, Yea, I am a byword unto them.They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face.For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me; And they have cast off the bridle before me.Upon my right hand rise the rabble; They thrust aside my feet, And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.They mar my path, They set forward my calamity, Even men that have no helper.As through a wide breach they come: In the midst of the ruin they roll themselves upon me.

He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me.

But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised of the people.All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death;and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two,and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard the blasphemy:what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death.Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands,saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

They gape upon me with their mouth, As a ravening and a roaring lion.

And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him.

who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.For the Lord Jehovah will help me; therefore have I not been confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found it not.For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not together.And there stood up certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.And not even so did their witness agree together.And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.And the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What further need have we of witnesses?Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be worthy of death.And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.
