They had made it to keep warm. Peter was also standing with them. He was warming himself.

So they asked him,“ You aren’t one of Jesus’ disciples too, are you?” He said,“ I am not.”One of the high priest’s slaves was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off. He said to Peter,“ Didn’t I see you with Jesus in the garden?”Again Peter said no. At that exact moment a rooster began to crow.

Blessed is the person who obeys the law of the Lord. They don’t follow the advice of evil people. They don’t make a habit of doing what sinners do. They don’t join those who make fun of the Lord and his law.

I don’t spend time with people who tell lies. I don’t keep company with pretenders.I hate to be with a group of sinful people. I refuse to spend time with those who are evil.

How can Christ and Satan agree? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?How can the temple of the true God and the statues of other gods agree? We are the temple of the living God. God has said,“ I will live with them. I will walk among them. I will be their God. And they will be my people.”( Leviticus 26:12; Jeremiah 32:38; Ezekiel 37:27)So,“ Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch anything that is not pure and‘ clean.’ Then I will receive you.”( Isaiah 52:11; Ezekiel 20:34, 41)

Walk with wise people and become wise. A companion of foolish people suffers harm.

Peter was sitting out in the courtyard. A female servant came to him.“ You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.But in front of all of them, Peter said he was not.“ I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.Then he went out to the gate leading into the courtyard. There another servant saw him. She said to the people,“ This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”Again he said he was not. With a curse he said,“ I don’t know the man!”After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter.“ You must be one of them,” they said.“ The way you talk gives you away.”Then Peter began to curse and said to them,“ I don’t know the man!” Right away a rooster crowed.Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said.“ The rooster will crow,” Jesus had told him.“ Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter went outside. He broke down and cried.

Don’t let anyone fool you.“ Bad companions make a good person bad.”

Peter was below in the courtyard. One of the high priest’s female servants came by.When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him.“ You also were with Jesus, that Nazarene,” she said.But Peter said he had not been with him.“ I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said. He went out to the entrance to the courtyard.The servant saw him there. She said again to those standing around,“ This fellow is one of them.”Again he said he was not. After a little while, those standing nearby said to Peter,“ You must be one of them. You are from Galilee.”Then Peter began to curse. He said to them,“ I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”Right away the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had spoken to him.“ The rooster will crow twice,” he had said.“ Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter broke down and cried.

Because he was very sad and troubled, he prayed even harder. His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Leave your childish ways and you will live. Walk in the way of understanding.”

Don’t drag me away with sinners. Don’t drag me away with those who do evil. They speak in a friendly way to their neighbors. But their hearts are full of hate.

Then the chief priests met with the elders of the people. They met in the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest.
