With a curse he said,“ I don’t know the man!”After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter.“ You must be one of them,” they said.“ The way you talk gives you away.”Then Peter began to curse and said to them,“ I don’t know the man!” Right away a rooster crowed.Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said.“ The rooster will crow,” Jesus had told him.“ Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter went outside. He broke down and cried.

He went out to the entrance to the courtyard.The servant saw him there. She said again to those standing around,“ This fellow is one of them.”Again he said he was not. After a little while, those standing nearby said to Peter,“ You must be one of them. You are from Galilee.”Then Peter began to curse. He said to them,“ I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”Right away the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had spoken to him.“ The rooster will crow twice,” he had said.“ Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter broke down and cried.
