For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

孰為大、席坐者乎、役事者乎、非席坐者大乎、然我在爾中如役事者也、

孰為長、席坐者乎、役事者乎、非席坐者長乎、然我在爾中、如役事者也、

孰為大、席坐者乎、抑役事者乎、非席坐者乎、然我在爾曹中、如役事者也、

夫坐席者與侍奉者孰大？非坐席者乎？然予在爾中、則如侍奉者也。

For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Blessed are those servants, whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you that he will dress himself, make them recline, and will come and serve them.

but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

But who is there among you, having a servant plowing or keeping sheep, that will say when he comes in from the field,‘ Come immediately and sit down at the table,’and will not rather tell him,‘ Prepare my supper, clothe yourself properly, and serve me, while I eat and drink. Afterward you shall eat and drink’?Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded? I think not.

Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him,“ Lord, do you wash my feet?”Jesus answered him,“ You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.”Peter said to him,“ You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him,“ If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.”Simon Peter said to him,“ Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”Jesus said to him,“ Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you.”For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said,“ You are not all clean.”So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them,“ Do you know what I have done to you?You call me,‘ Teacher’ and‘ Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am.If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.For I have given you an example, that you should also do as I have done to you.Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither is one who is sent greater than he who sent him.
