For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

正如人子之來、非以役人、乃為人役、且捨其生以為眾人之贖焉。』

主至、見僕儆醒、斯僕福矣。予實語爾、主且酬以盛筵、躬自束帶而供役矣。

乃屈尊紆貴、甘自為僕、而降生為人。其為人也、復謙之又謙、損之又損、惟天主之命是從；鞠躬盡瘁、死而後已、終至致命於十字架上。

吾主耶穌基督之慷慨、固爾等之所知也。彼乃萬有之主也、顧為爾等之故、甘成貧窮、俾爾等因彼之貧窮、而成富有。

爾中孰有一僕、為爾耕牧、甫自田間返、而謂之曰：「請即來入席乎？」詎不曰：「為我備膳、束帶以侍、俟予既食且飲、爾乃可食而飲也。」僕既如命、爾乃復向彼致謝乎？

注水盤匜中、濯門徒足、以所佩巾拭之。爰至西門伯鐸祿前、而伯鐸祿止之曰：『主欲濯吾足耶？』耶穌曰：『予之所為、汝今不知其意、後當知之。』伯鐸祿曰：『主決不可為吾濯足！』耶穌曰：『予不汝濯、則汝無與於我。』西門伯鐸祿乃曰：『不惟吾足、且手與首！』耶穌曰：『已浴者第須濯足、而舉身皆潔。爾曹潔矣、顧亦有例外。』蓋彼固知誰將賣之、故云：「爾曹非人人皆潔」也。濯足既畢、復披衣登席、而諭徒曰：『予適所行、爾知其意否？爾呼予曰「師」曰「主、」爾言當矣、予固是也。然予以師以主之身、猶且濯爾之足、則爾等亦宜互為濯足矣。予以身作則、望爾效之。予剴切告爾、僕不能大於其主、奉命者不能大於授命者。
