夫坐席者與侍奉者孰大？非坐席者乎？然予在爾中、則如侍奉者也。

For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

正如人子不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」

主人回來，看見奴僕警醒等候，奴僕就有福了！我實在告訴你們，主人必束上腰帶請他們坐席，並親自服侍他們。

反而甘願放下一切，取了奴僕的形像，降生為人的樣子。祂以人的樣子出現後，就自願卑微，順服至死，而且死在十字架上。

因為你們知道我們主耶穌基督的恩典，祂本來富足，卻為你們的緣故變得貧窮，使你們藉著祂的貧窮可以變得富足。

「你們誰會對種田或放羊回來的奴僕說，『請趕快坐下來吃飯』？不都是吩咐他『給我準備晚飯，束上腰帶伺候我用餐，等我吃完，你才可以吃』嗎？奴僕照著吩咐去做，主人會謝他嗎？

然後倒了一盆水為門徒洗腳，用束在腰間的毛巾擦乾。輪到西門·彼得的時候，他說：「主啊！你要洗我的腳嗎？」耶穌回答說：「我這樣做，你現在雖然不明白，將來一定會明白。」彼得說：「你絕對不可以洗我的腳。」耶穌說：「如果我不洗你的腳，你就和我沒有關係了。」西門·彼得說：「主啊，不只我的腳，連我的手和頭也幫我洗吧。」耶穌說：「洗過澡的人全身是乾淨的，只要洗洗腳就好了。你們是乾淨的，但不是每一個都乾淨。」因為耶穌知道誰要出賣祂，所以說：「你們不是每一個都乾淨。」耶穌給門徒洗完了腳，便穿上外衣再次坐下來，然後問道：「我為你們做的，你們明白嗎？你們稱呼我『老師』，也稱呼我『主』，你們稱呼得對，因為我是。我是你們的老師又是你們的主，尚且給你們洗腳，你們更應當彼此洗腳。我給你們立了一個榜樣，好讓你們效法我。「我實實在在地告訴你們，奴僕不能大過主人，受差遣的也不能大過差遣他的人。
