You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy— their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.But remember that they will have to face God, who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead.That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now dead— so although they were destined to die like all people, they now live forever with God in the Spirit.The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

But what if the servant thinks,‘ My master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk?The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful.

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”

or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people— none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced.

Now, however, Israel is led by drunks who reel with wine and stagger with alcohol. The priests and prophets stagger with alcohol and lose themselves in wine. They reel when they see visions and stagger as they render decisions.

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.When people are saying,“ Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. “ When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.

Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.

But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.
