There was a man who was a master of a household, who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a wine press in it, built a tower, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country.When the season for the fruit came near, he sent his servants to the farmers, to receive his fruit.The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way.But afterward he sent to them his son, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But the farmers, when they saw the son, said among themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and seize his inheritance.’So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”They told him,“ He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will lease out the vineyard to other farmers, who will give him the fruit in its season.”Jesus said to them,“ Did you never read in the Scriptures,‘ The stone which the builders rejected was made the head of the corner. This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes?’“ Therefore I tell you, God’s Kingdom will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation producing its fruit.He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but on whomever it will fall, it will scatter him as dust.”When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke about them.When they sought to seize him, they feared the multitudes, because they considered him to be a prophet.

He began to speak to them in parables.“ A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.Again, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.Again he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.Therefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those farmers said among themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’They took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.Haven’t you even read this Scripture:‘ The stone which the builders rejected was made the head of the corner.This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes’?”They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

Let me sing for my well beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fruitful hill.He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in the middle of it, and also cut out a wine press in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.“ Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard.What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes?Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.I will lay it a wasteland. It won’t be pruned or hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.”For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry of distress.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.If a man doesn’t remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.“ In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.

You brought a vine out of Egypt. You drove out the nations, and planted it.You cleared the ground for it. It took deep root, and filled the land.The mountains were covered with its shadow. Its boughs were like God’s cedars.It sent out its branches to the sea, its shoots to the River.Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it?The boar out of the wood ravages it. The wild animals of the field feed on it.Turn again, we beg you, God of Armies. Look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vine,

Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a pure and faithful seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?

Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon. He leased out the vineyard to keepers. Each was to bring a thousand shekels of silver for its fruit.My own vineyard is before me. The thousand are for you, Solomon, two hundred for those who tend its fruit.

He said therefore,“ A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

“ For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.

I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase.So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.Now he who plants and he who waters are the same, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.For we are God’s fellow workers. So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and respected men, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, captains of hundreds, captains of fifties, captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.I commanded your judges at that time, saying,“ Hear cases between your brothers and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.

If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you shall arise, and go up to the place which Yahweh your God chooses.You shall come to the priests who are Levites and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall inquire, and they shall give you the verdict.You shall do according to the decisions of the verdict which they shall give you from that place which Yahweh chooses. You shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach you.According to the decisions of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, you shall do. You shall not turn away from the sentence which they announce to you, to the right hand, nor to the left.The man who does presumptuously in not listening to the priest who stands to minister there before Yahweh your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die. You shall put away the evil from Israel.All the people shall hear and fear, and do no more presumptuously.When you have come to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say,“ I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,”you shall surely set him whom Yahweh your God chooses as king over yourselves. You shall set as king over you one from among your brothers. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which Yahweh your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
