但如果说‘是来自人间’，那么民众都会用石头砸我们，因为他们深信约翰是先知。”

若說『從人間來』，百姓都要用石頭打死我們，因為他們信約翰是先知。」

但如果說『是來自人間』，那麼民眾都會用石頭砸我們，因為他們深信約翰是先知。」

若云自人、眾民必以石擊我、蓋民信約翰為先知也、

若云由人、民必石擊我、蓋民信約翰為先知也、

若云自人、民必以石擊我、蓋民皆信約翰為先知也、

若云自人、又恐犯眾怒、而遭石擊、蓋眾皆確信如望之為先知也。』

But if we say,‘ From people,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

But if we say,‘ From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”

What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.

And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.

And many came to him. And they said,“ John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.”

Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,

What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.This is he of whom it is written,“‘ Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”( When all the people heard this, and the tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized with the baptism of John,

But they said,“ Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”

And they were seeking to arrest him but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they left him and went away.
