其人竊議曰、若云自天、彼必曰、曷不信之、

若輩乃互議曰：『如謂自天、彼將曰胡不信之；

They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to one another about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

They discussed it among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

So they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They reasoned with themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

信子的人有永生；不信子的人得不到永生，而且神的憤怒常在他身上。」

我看見了，所以作證：這一位是神的兒子。」

就來見約翰，對他說：「拉比，從前同你在約旦河的東邊，你所見證的那位，你看，他在施洗，眾人都到他那裏去了。」

約翰為他作見證，喊着說：「這就是我曾說：『那在我以後來的先於我，因為在我以前，他已經存在。』」從他的豐富裏，我們都領受了恩典，而且恩上加恩。律法是藉着摩西頒佈的；恩典和真理卻是由耶穌基督來的。從來沒有人見過神，只有在父懷裏獨一的兒子將他表明出來。

你們曾差人到約翰那裏，他為真理作過見證。其實，我所受的見證不是從人來的；然而，我說這些話是為了使你們得救。約翰是點亮的明燈，你們情願因他的光歡欣一時。

約翰快走完他的人生路程時，說：『你們以為我是誰？我不是；但是有一位在我以後來的，我就是解他腳上的鞋帶也不配。』

這就是我曾說『那在我以後來的先於我，因為在我以前，他已經存在』的那一位。
