And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

他們就彼此商議說：『我們若說「由於天」，他就會說你們為甚麼不信他？

他們就彼此商量，說：「如果我們說『是來自天上』，他就會問『你們為什麼不相信他呢？』

其人竊議曰、若云自天、彼必曰、曷不信之、

其人竊議曰、若云由天、彼必曰、曷不信之、

其人竊議曰、若云自天、彼必曰、然則何不信之、

若輩乃互議曰：『如謂自天、彼將曰胡不信之；

They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to one another about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

They discussed it among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

They discussed it among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

So they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They reasoned with themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all[ men] come to him.

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.For the law was given by Moses,[ but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared[ him].

Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not[ he]. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of[ his] feet I am not worthy to loose.

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
