They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long,and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagoguesand greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others.

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples,“ The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat,

And he called the people to him and said to them,“ Hear and understand:

And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them,“ If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

And in his teaching he said,“ Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplacesand have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
