耶穌在聖殿裏教導人，問他們說：「文士怎麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？大衛被聖靈感動，說：『主對我主說：你坐在我的右邊，等我把你的仇敵放在你腳下。』大衛親自稱他為主，他怎麼又是大衛的後裔呢？」一大羣的人都喜歡聽他。

亞伯拉罕的後裔、大衛的子孫耶穌基督的家譜：

論到他兒子－我主耶穌基督，按肉體說，是從大衛後裔生的；按神聖的靈說，因從死人中復活，用大能顯明他是上帝的兒子。

從耶西的殘幹必長出嫩枝，他的根所抽的枝子必結果實。耶和華的靈必住在他身上，就是智慧和聰明的靈，謀略和能力的靈，知識和敬畏耶和華的靈。

經上不是說『基督是大衛的後裔，出自大衛的本鄉伯利恆』嗎？」

他就呼叫說：「大衛之子耶穌啊，可憐我吧！」在前頭走的人就責備他，不許他作聲，他卻越發喊叫：「大衛之子啊，可憐我吧！」

在那些日子、那時候，我必使大衛公義的苗裔長起來；他必在地上施行公平和公義。在那些日子，猶大必得救，耶路撒冷必安然居住，他的名必稱為『耶和華－我們的義』。

既然大衛是先知，他知道上帝曾向他起誓，要從他的後裔中立一位坐在他的寶座上。

「看哪，日子將到，我要為大衛興起公義的苗裔；他必掌王權，行事有智慧，在地上施行公平和公義。這是耶和華說的。在他的日子，猶大必得救，以色列也安然居住。他的名必稱為『耶和華－我們的義』。

法利賽人聚集的時候，耶穌問他們：「論到基督，你們的意見如何？他是誰的後裔呢？」他們說：「是大衛的。」耶穌說：「這樣，大衛被聖靈感動，怎麼還稱他為主，說：『主對我主說：你坐在我的右邊，等我把你的仇敵放在你腳下？』大衛既稱他為主，他怎麼又是大衛的後裔呢？」

因有一嬰孩為我們而生；有一子賜給我們。政權必擔在他的肩頭上；他名稱為「奇妙策士、全能的上帝、永在的父、和平的君」。他的政權與平安必加增無窮。他必在大衛的寶座上治理他的國，以公平公義使國堅定穩固，從今直到永遠。萬軍之耶和華的熱心必成就這事。

「我－耶穌差遣我的使者，為了眾教會向你們證明這些事。我是大衛的根，是他的後裔；我是明亮的晨星。」

就能廢棄我與我僕人大衛所立的約，使他沒有後裔在他的寶座上作王，並能廢棄我與事奉我的利未家的祭司所立的約。
