Jesus said to them,“ Why do people say that the Messiah is the son of David?

Then Jesus said to them,“ Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?

But he said to them,“ How can they say that the Christ is David’s son?

Then Jesus presented them with a question.“ Why is it,” he asked,“ that the Messiah is said to be the son of David?

Then he said to them,“ How can they say that the Messiah is the son of David?

But He said to them,“ How is it that they say the Christ is David’s son?

And He said to them,“ How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David?

And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David’s son?

Then He said to them,“ How can they say that the Messiah is the Son of David?

And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?

But he said to them,“ How is it that they say that the Christ is David’s son?

He said to them,“ Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?

Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard. He asked,“ Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said,“‘ The Lord said to my Lord,“ Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your control.” ’( Psalm 110:1)David himself calls him‘ Lord.’ So how can he be David’s son?” The large crowd listened to Jesus with delight.

This is the written story of the family line of Jesus the Messiah. He is the son of David. He is also the son of Abraham.

The good news is about God’s Son. He was born into the family line of King David.By the Holy Spirit, he was appointed to be the mighty Son of God. God did this by raising him from the dead. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesse’s family is like a tree that has been cut down. A new little tree will grow from its stump. From its roots a Branch will grow and produce fruit.The Spirit of the Lord will rest on that Branch. The Spirit will help him to be wise and understanding. The Spirit will help him make wise plans and carry them out. The Spirit will help him know the Lord and have respect for him.

Doesn’t Scripture say that the Messiah will come from the family line of David? Doesn’t it say that he will come from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”

So the blind man called out,“ Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!”Those who led the way commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet. But he shouted even louder,“ Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

“ Here is what I will do in those days and at that time. I will make a godly Branch grow from David’s royal line. He will do what is fair and right in the land.In those days Judah will be saved. Jerusalem will live in safety. And it will be called The Lord Who Makes Us Right With Himself.”

But David was a prophet. He knew that God had made a promise to him. God had promised that he would make someone in David’s family line king after him.

“ A new day is coming,” announces the Lord.“ At that time I will raise up for David’s royal line a godly Branch. He will be a King who will rule wisely. He will do what is fair and right in the land.In his days Judah will be saved. Israel will live in safety. And the Branch will be called The Lord Who Makes Us Right With Himself.

The Pharisees were gathered together. Jesus asked them,“ What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”“ The son of David,” they replied.He said to them,“ Then why does David call him‘ Lord’? The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said,“‘ The Lord said to my Lord,“ Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your control.” ’( Psalm 110:1)So if David calls him‘ Lord,’ how can he be David’s son?”

A child will be born to us. A son will be given to us. He will rule over us. And he will be called Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God. He will also be called Father Who Lives Forever and Prince Who Brings Peace.There will be no limit to how great his authority is. The peace he brings will never end. He will rule on David’s throne and over his kingdom. He will make the kingdom strong and secure. His rule will be based on what is fair and right. It will last forever. The Lord’ s great love will make sure that happens. He rules over all.

“ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this witness for the churches. I am the Root and the Son of David. I am the bright Morning Star.”

Only then could my covenant with my servant David be broken. Only then could my covenant with the Levites who serve me as priests be broken. Only then would David no longer have someone from his family line to rule on his throne.
