有士子數人曰、夫子所言善矣、

有經生應曰：『夫子、旨哉爾言。』

Some of the teachers of the law responded,“ Well said, teacher!”

Some of the teachers of the law replied,“ You have spoken well, teacher!”

“ Well said, Teacher!” remarked some of the teachers of religious law who were standing there.

Some of the scribes answered,“ Teacher, you have spoken well.”

Some of the scribes answered and said,“ Teacher, You have spoken well.”

Then some of the scribes answered and said,“ Teacher, You have spoken well.”

And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said.

Some of the scribes answered,“ Teacher, You have spoken well.”

Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

Then some of the experts in the law answered,“ Teacher, you have spoken well!”

Some of the scribes answered,“ Teacher, you speak well.”

Then a great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ party stood up and contended sharply,“ We find nothing wrong in this man. What if a spirit or an angel spoke to him?”

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him,“ Which commandment is the most important of all?”Jesus answered,“ The most important is,‘ Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this:‘ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”And the scribe said to him,“ You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him.And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him,“ You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.“ Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”And he said to him,“ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.This is the great and first commandment.And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
