Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question.

While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees.These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.

They posed this question:“ Teacher, Moses said,‘ If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow.But the second brother also died, and the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them.Last of all, the woman also died.So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.”Jesus replied,“ Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.“ But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead— haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.”When the crowds heard him, they were astounded at his teaching.

But tell me this— since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead?

In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.“ But now, as to whether the dead will be raised— haven’t you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error.”

One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.

Paul realized that some members of the high council were Sadducees and some were Pharisees, so he shouted,“ Brothers, I am a Pharisee, as were my ancestors! And I am on trial because my hope is in the resurrection of the dead!”This divided the council— the Pharisees against the Sadducees—for the Sadducees say there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, but the Pharisees believe in all of these.

“ Watch out!” Jesus warned them.“ Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus.They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith.
