You are impartial and don’t play favorites.Now tell us what you think about this: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But Jesus knew their evil motives.“ You hypocrites!” he said.“ Why are you trying to trap me?Here, show me the coin used for the tax.” When they handed him a Roman coin,he asked,“ Whose picture and title are stamped on it?”“ Caesar’s,” they replied.“ Well, then,” he said,“ give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”His reply amazed them, and they went away.

So they failed to trap him by what he said in front of the people. Instead, they were amazed by his answer, and they became silent.

Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever.

Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn’t go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn’t be allowed to celebrate the Passover.So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked,“ What is your charge against this man?”“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.“ Then take him away and judge him by your own law,” Pilate told them.“ Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,” the Jewish leaders replied.( This fulfilled Jesus’ prediction about the way he would die.)

In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.

They wanted to trap him into saying something they could use against him.

Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested.“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us— is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?” Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said,“ Why are you trying to trap me? Show me a Roman coin, and I’ll tell you.”When they handed it to him, he asked,“ Whose picture and title are stamped on it?”“ Caesar’s,” they replied.“ Well, then,” Jesus said,“ give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” His reply completely amazed them.

Then the people said,“ Come on, let’s plot a way to stop Jeremiah. We have plenty of priests and wise men and prophets. We don’t need him to teach the word and give us advice and prophecies. Let’s spread rumors about him and ignore what he says.”

The wicked wait in ambush for the godly, looking for an excuse to kill them.But the Lord will not let the wicked succeed or let the godly be condemned when they are put on trial.

I have heard the many rumors about me. They call me“ The Man Who Lives in Terror.” They threaten,“ If you say anything, we will report it.” Even my old friends are watching me, waiting for a fatal slip.“ He will trap himself,” they say,“ and then we will get our revenge on him.”

So he sent for a woman from Tekoa who had a reputation for great wisdom. He said to her,“ Pretend you are in mourning; wear mourning clothes and don’t put on lotions. Act like a woman who has been mourning for the dead for a long time.

Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus’ enemies watched him closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath.

Say to God,“ How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power.

The scoffer will be gone, the arrogant will disappear, and those who plot evil will be killed.Those who convict the innocent by their false testimony will disappear. A similar fate awaits those who use trickery to pervert justice and who tell lies to destroy the innocent.

I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me!“ Let’s destroy this man and all his words,” they said.“ Let’s cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.”

So Jeroboam told his wife,“ Disguise yourself so that no one will recognize you as my wife. Then go to the prophet Ahijah at Shiloh— the man who told me I would become king.Take him a gift of ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and ask him what will happen to the boy.”So Jeroboam’s wife went to Ahijah’s home at Shiloh. He was an old man now and could no longer see.But the Lord had told Ahijah,“ Jeroboam’s wife will come here, pretending to be someone else. She will ask you about her son, for he is very sick. Give her the answer I give you.”So when Ahijah heard her footsteps at the door, he called out,“ Come in, wife of Jeroboam! Why are you pretending to be someone else?” Then he told her,“ I have bad news for you.

Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery.
