They demanded,“ By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”

曰、請告我、爾以何權行此諸事、賜爾此權者誰乎、

『請示吾儕、爾憑何權行此一切？且孰授爾以斯權耶？』

“ Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said.“ Who gave you this authority?”

“ Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they all said.“ Who gave you this authority?”

and said to him,“ Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.”

and said to him,“ Tell us, by what authority are you doing these things? Who is it who gave you this authority?”

and they declared, saying to Him,“ Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?”

and spoke to Him, saying,“ Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?”

and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

and said to Him:“ Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Who is it who gave You this authority?”

And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

and said to him,“ Tell us: By what authority are you doing these things? Or who it is who gave you this authority?”

They asked him,“ Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”

But the Jewish leaders demanded,“ What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.”

When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded,“ By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”“ I’ll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question,” Jesus replied.“ Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human?” They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask us why we didn’t believe John.But if we say it was merely human, we’ll be mobbed because the people believe John was a prophet.”So they finally replied,“ We don’t know.” And Jesus responded,“ Then I won’t tell you by what authority I do these things.

They demanded,“ By what authority are you doing all these things? “ But the man in the wrong pushed Moses aside.‘ Who made you a ruler and judge over us?’ he asked.

The man replied,“ Who appointed you to be our prince and judge? Are you going to kill me as you killed that Egyptian yesterday?” Then Moses was afraid, thinking,“ Everyone knows what I did.”

They brought in the two disciples and demanded,“ By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,“ Rulers and elders of our people,are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed?Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

“ You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!

In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge,so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him.“ I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.“ And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice— the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life giving power to his Son.And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man.

“ So God sent back the same man his people had previously rejected when they demanded,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge over us?’ Through the angel who appeared to him in the burning bush, God sent Moses to be their ruler and savior.And by means of many wonders and miraculous signs, he led them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and through the wilderness for forty years.“ Moses himself told the people of Israel,‘ God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people.’Moses was with our ancestors, the assembly of God’s people in the wilderness, when the angel spoke to him at Mount Sinai. And there Moses received life giving words to pass on to us.“ But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on.As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him.When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.“ Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!”But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said,“ Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!”He replied,“ If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”

Then Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices.He said to them,“ The Scriptures declare,‘ My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”
