So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

So Joseph went also. He went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea. That is where Bethlehem, the town of David, was. Joseph went there because he belonged to the family line of David.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,

And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.

Don’t the scriptures say that the Christ is a descendant of David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”

The LORD said to Samuel,“ How long do you intend to mourn for Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with olive oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem, for I have selected a king for myself from among his sons.”

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, a descendant of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.

He came to a town called Nazareth and lived there. Then what had been spoken by the prophets was fulfilled, that Jesus would be called a Nazarene.

So Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years old. He was the son( as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda,the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

Now Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

Now at that very moment, Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters,“ May the LORD be with you!” They replied,“ May the LORD bless you!”

Saul said to him,“ Whose son are you, young man?” David replied,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse in Bethlehem.”

So the two of them journeyed together until they arrived in Bethlehem. When they entered Bethlehem, the whole village was excited about their arrival. The women of the village said,“ Can this be Naomi?”

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).

The neighbor women named him, saying,“ A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed. Now he became the father of Jesse– David’s father!

But as for me, when I was returning from Paddan, Rachel died– to my sorrow– in the land of Canaan. It happened along the way, some distance from Ephrath. So I buried her there on the way to Ephrath”( that is, Bethlehem).

If your father happens to miss me, you should say,‘ David urgently requested me to let him go to his city Bethlehem, for there is an annual sacrifice there for his entire family.’

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, in the time of King Herod, wise men from the East came to Jerusalemsaying,“ Where is the one who is born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”When King Herod heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.“ In Bethlehem of Judea,” they said,“ for it is written this way by the prophet:‘ And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,are in no way least among the rulers of Judah,for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Samuel did what the LORD told him. When he arrived in Bethlehem, the elders of the city were afraid to meet him. They said,“ Do you come in peace?”

Nathanael replied,“ Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip replied,“ Come and see.”

All the people who were at the gate and the elders replied,“ We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who is entering your home like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built up the house of Israel! May you prosper in Ephrathah and become famous in Bethlehem.

Now David was the son of this Ephrathite named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah. He had eight sons, and in Saul’s days he was old and well advanced in years.

Salmon was the father of Boaz, Boaz was the father of Obed,Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of David.
