So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

So Joseph went also. He went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea. That is where Bethlehem, the town of David, was. Joseph went there because he belonged to the family line of David.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,

And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.

And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, Jehovah be with you. And they answered him, Jehovah bless thee.

And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth- lehemite.

So they two went until they came to Beth- lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth- lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and the women said, Is this Naomi?

And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath( the same is Beth- lehem).

And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath( the same is Beth- lehem).

If thy father miss me at all, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth- lehem his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise- men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written through the prophet,And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

And Samuel did that which Jehovah spake, and came to Beth- lehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman that is come into thy house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth- lehem- judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.

and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
