Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came and boldly went in to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.

Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed,because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and His name is holy.His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him.He has done a mighty deed with His arm; He has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts;He has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly.He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.He has helped His servant Israel, mindful of His mercy,just as He spoke to our ancestors, to Abraham and his descendants forever.And Mary stayed with her about three months; then she returned to her home.

Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.

Simeon took Him up in his arms, praised God, and said:Now, Master, You can dismiss Your slave in peace, as You promised.For my eyes have seen Your salvation.You have prepared it in the presence of all peoples—a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory to Your people Israel.
