就在那时，耶稣对众人说：“你们带着刀棒出来抓我，如同拿强盗吗？我天天坐在圣殿里教导人，你们并没有抓我。

祭司长和文士听见这话，就想法子要除掉耶稣，却又怕他，因为众人都对他的教导感到惊奇。

他们又来到耶路撒冷。耶稣在圣殿里行走的时候，祭司长、文士和长老进前来，问他说：“你仗着什么权柄做这些事？给你权柄做这些事的是谁呢？”耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一句话，你们回答我，我就告诉你们我仗着什么权柄做这些事。约翰的洗礼是从天上来的，还是从人间来的呢？你们回答我吧。”他们彼此商议说：“我们若说‘从天上来的’，他会说：‘这样，你们为什么不信他呢？’但若说‘从人间来的’，却又怕众人，因为大家认为约翰确是先知。”于是他们回答耶稣：“我们不知道。”耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们，我仗着什么权柄做这些事。”

耶稣每日在圣殿里教导人，每夜出城到橄榄山住宿。众百姓清早上圣殿，到耶稣那里听他讲道。

过两天是逾越节，又是除酵节，祭司长和文士在想法子怎样设计捉拿耶稣，把他杀掉。

耶稣回答他：“我一向都是公开地对世人讲话，我常在会堂和圣殿里，就是犹太人聚集的地方教导人，我私下并没有讲什么。

那时，祭司长和百姓的长老聚集在那称为该亚法的大祭司的院里。大家商议要设计捉拿耶稣，把他杀掉。

摩西不是传了律法给你们吗？你们却没有一个人守律法。为什么想要杀我呢？”

他们看出这比喻是指着他们说的，就想要捉拿他，但是惧怕众人，于是离开他走了。

于是，他们又要捉拿他，他却从他们手中逃脱了。

其中有人要捉拿他，只是没有人下手。

从那日起，他们就商议要杀耶稣。所以，耶稣不再公开在犹太人中走动，却离开那里，往靠近旷野的乡间去，到了一座城，名叫以法莲，就在那里和门徒住下来。犹太人的逾越节近了，有许多人从乡下上耶路撒冷去，要在过节前洁净自己。于是他们寻找耶稣，站在圣殿里彼此说：“你们认为怎样，他不会来过节吧？”那时，祭司长和法利赛人早已下令，若有人知道耶稣的下落，就要报告，他们好去捉拿他。

“我知道，你们是亚伯拉罕的后裔，你们却想要杀我，因为你们心里容不下我的道。我所说的是在我父那里看见的；你们所做的是在你们的父那里听到的。”他们回答耶稣：“我们的父是亚伯拉罕。”耶稣对他们说：“你们若是亚伯拉罕的儿女，就会做亚伯拉罕所做的事。我把在上帝那里所听见的真理告诉了你们，现在你们却想要杀我；亚伯拉罕没有做过这样的事。

耶稣进了圣殿，正教导人的时候，祭司长和百姓的长老来问他：“你仗着什么权柄做这些事？给你这权柄的是谁呢？”
