当时，耶稣对众人说：“你们带着刀棒出来拿我，如同拿强盗吗？我天天坐在殿里教训人，你们并没有拿我。

祭司长和文士听见这话，就想法子要除灭耶稣，却又怕他，因为众人都希奇他的教训。

他们又来到耶路撒冷。耶稣在殿里行走的时候，祭司长和文士并长老进前来，问他说：“你仗着什么权柄做这些事？给你这权柄的是谁呢？”耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一句话，你们回答我，我就告诉你们我仗着什么权柄做这些事。约翰的洗礼是从天上来的？是从人间来的呢？你们可以回答我。”他们彼此商议说：“我们若说‘从天上来’，他必说：‘这样，你们为什么不信他呢？’若说‘从人间来’，却又怕百姓，因为众人真以约翰为先知。”于是回答耶稣说：“我们不知道。”耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们我仗着什么权柄做这些事。”

耶稣每日在殿里教训人，每夜出城在一座山，名叫橄榄山住宿。众百姓清早上圣殿，到耶稣那里，要听他讲道。

过两天是逾越节，又是除酵节，祭司长和文士想法子怎么用诡计捉拿耶稣，杀他。

耶稣回答说：“我从来是明明地对世人说话。我常在会堂和殿里，就是犹太人聚集的地方教训人；我在暗地里并没有说什么。

那时，祭司长和民间的长老聚集在大祭司称为该亚法的院里。大家商议要用诡计拿住耶稣，杀他，

摩西岂不是传律法给你们吗？你们却没有一个人守律法。为什么想要杀我呢？”

他们看出这比喻是指着他们说的，就想要捉拿他，只是惧怕百姓，于是离开他走了。

他们又要拿他，他却逃出他们的手走了。

其中有人要捉拿他，只是无人下手。

从那日起，他们就商议要杀耶稣。所以，耶稣不再显然行在犹太人中间，就离开那里往靠近旷野的地方去，到了一座城，名叫以法莲，就在那里和门徒同住。犹太人的逾越节近了，有许多人从乡下上耶路撒冷去，要在节前洁净自己。他们就寻找耶稣，站在殿里彼此说：“你们的意思如何，他不来过节吗？”那时，祭司长和法利赛人早已吩咐说，若有人知道耶稣在哪里，就要报明，好去拿他。

我知道你们是亚伯拉罕的子孙，你们却想要杀我，因为你们心里容不下我的道。我所说的是在我父那里看见的；你们所行的是在你们的父那里听见的。”他们说：“我们的父就是亚伯拉罕。”耶稣说：“你们若是亚伯拉罕的儿子，就必行亚伯拉罕所行的事。我将在神那里所听见的真理告诉了你们，现在你们却想要杀我，这不是亚伯拉罕所行的事。

耶稣进了殿，正教训人的时候，祭司长和民间的长老来问他说：“你仗着什么权柄做这些事？给你这权柄的是谁呢？”
