这时候，耶稣对那群人说：“你们带着刀剑和棍棒出来抓我，就像对付强盗那样吗？我天天坐在圣殿里教导人，你们并没有抓我。

祭司长们和经文士们听了，就图谋怎样来除灭耶稣。原来他们怕耶稣，因为众人都对他的教导惊叹不已。

他们又来到耶路撒冷。当耶稣在圣殿里行走的时候，祭司长们、经文士们和长老们来到他那里。他们问：“你凭什么权柄做这些事？谁给你这权柄，让你做这些事？”耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一个问题，你们回答我，我就告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。约翰的洗礼是来自天上，还是来自人间呢？你们回答我！”他们就彼此讨论，说：“如果我们说‘是来自天上’，他就会问‘那么你们为什么不相信他呢？’可是我们能说‘是来自人间’吗？”原来他们怕民众，因为大家都认为约翰的确是先知。于是他们回答耶稣，说：“我们不知道。”耶稣就对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。”

耶稣白天在圣殿里教导人，夜间出去到那叫做“橄榄园”的山里过夜。全体民众清早起来上圣殿，到耶稣那里听他讲说。

过两天就是逾越节和除酵节了。祭司长们和经文士们在图谋怎样用诡计拘捕耶稣，把他杀掉。

耶稣回答他：“我一向公开地对世人讲话。我总是在会堂和圣殿，就是所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人。我没有在隐秘中讲过什么。

那时，祭司长们和民间的长老们聚集在叫该亚法的大祭司的宅院里，商议要用诡计拘捕耶稣，把他杀掉。

摩西不是把律法传给你们了吗？你们当中却没有一个人遵行这律法。你们为什么想要杀我呢？”

祭司长们、律法师们和长老们知道这比喻是针对他们而说的，就想拘捕耶稣。可是他们怕民众，于是离开耶稣走了。

于是他们又试图抓耶稣，他却从他们的手中脱离出来。

其中有些人想要抓他，可是没有人下手。

从那天起，他们就商议要把耶稣杀掉。因此，耶稣不再公开地在犹太人当中行事，而是离开那里，到旷野附近的地方，进了一个叫以法莲的城，在那里与门徒们住下了。犹太人的逾越节快到了。许多人从乡下上耶路撒冷去，要在节日前洁净自己。他们寻找耶稣，站在圣殿里彼此谈论说：“你们怎么看，他绝不会来过节吧？”原来，祭司长们和法利赛人早就下令，如果有人知道耶稣在哪里，就要报告，好抓住他。

我知道你们是亚伯拉罕的后裔。可是你们想要杀我，因为你们里面容不下我的话语。我所说的，是我从我父那里所看到的；而实际上，你们所做的，是从你们的父那里所听到的。”他们回答说：“亚伯拉罕是我们的父！”耶稣说：“如果你们是亚伯拉罕的儿女，就会做亚伯拉罕所做的事。但如今，我把从神那里所听到的真理告诉了你们，你们就想杀我。亚伯拉罕没有做过这种事。

耶稣进了圣殿，正教导人的时候，祭司长们和民间的长老们前来问他：“你凭什么权柄做这些事？是谁给你这权柄的？”
