He said,“ A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return.

He said:“ A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.

Jesus said,“ A man from an important family went to a country far away. He went there to be made king and then return home.

He said therefore,“ A nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return.

Therefore he said,“ A nobleman traveled to a far country to receive for himself authority to be king and then to return.

So He said,“ A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then to return.

Therefore He said:“ A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.

“ Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last— dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.“ The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more.The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more.But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.“ After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money.The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said,‘ Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’“ The master was full of praise.‘ Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’“ The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said,‘ Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’“ The master said,‘ Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’“ Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said,‘ Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate.I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’“ But the master replied,‘ You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate,why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’“ Then he ordered,‘ Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver.To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

He said,“ A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return.Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying,‘ Invest this for me while I am gone.’But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say,‘ We do not want him to be our king.’“ After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were.The first servant reported,‘ Master, I invested your money and made ten times the original amount!’“‘ Well done!’ the king exclaimed.‘ You are a good servant. You have been faithful with the little I entrusted to you, so you will be governor of ten cities as your reward.’“ The next servant reported,‘ Master, I invested your money and made five times the original amount.’“‘ Well done!’ the king said.‘ You will be governor over five cities.’“ But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said,‘ Master, I hid your money and kept it safe.I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn’t yours and harvesting crops you didn’t plant.’“‘ You wicked servant!’ the king roared.‘ Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I’m a hard man who takes what isn’t mine and harvests crops I didn’t plant,why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’“ Then, turning to the others standing nearby, the king ordered,‘ Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’“‘ But, master,’ they said,‘ he already has ten pounds!’“‘ Yes,’ the king replied,‘ and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king— bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.’”

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!

Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.

For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white robed men suddenly stood among them.“ Men of Galilee,” they said,“ why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

Then Jesus began teaching them with stories:“ A man planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country.

that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else— not only in this world but also in the world to come.God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

Now Jesus turned to the people again and told them this story:“ A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and moved to another country to live for several years.

Jesus came and told his disciples,“ I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven.

“ The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return— in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”

Pilate said,“ So you are a king?” Jesus responded,“ You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”

“ But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another,‘ Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’

For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”
