Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst sinner of all.But for that very reason, God showed me mercy. And I am the worst of sinners. He showed me mercy so that Christ Jesus could show that he is very patient. I was an example for those who would come to believe in him. Then they would receive eternal life.

At just the right time Christ died for ungodly people. He died for us when we had no power of our own.

He said,“ Suppose one of you has 100 sheep and loses one of them. Won’t he leave the 99 in the open country? Won’t he go and look for the one lost sheep until he finds it?When he finds it, he will joyfully put it on his shouldersand go home. Then he will call his friends and neighbors together. He will say,‘ Be joyful with me. I have found my lost sheep.’I tell you, it will be the same in heaven. There will be great joy when one sinner turns away from sin. Yes, there will be more joy than for 99 godly people who do not need to turn away from their sins.

Jesus answered them,“ Healthy people don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners to turn away from their sins.”

Jesus answered,“ I was sent only to the people of Israel. They are like lost sheep.”

But we had to celebrate and be glad. This brother of yours was dead. And now he is alive again. He was lost. And now he is found.’ ”

Instead, go to the people of Israel. They are like sheep that have become lost.

Jesus heard this. So he said,“ Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do.Go and learn what this means,‘ I want mercy and not sacrifice.’( Hosea 6:6) I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners to follow me.”

People now come to God through him. And he is able to save them completely and for all time. Jesus lives forever. He prays for them.

“ See that you don’t look down on one of these little ones. Here is what I tell you. Their angels in heaven are always with my Father who is in heaven.
