And the people stood by, watching. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying,“ He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.”

The men who were holding Jesus in custody began mocking Him and beating Him,and they blindfolded Him and repeatedly asked Him, saying,“ Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?”And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming.

and they bound Him and led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor.

So Pilate then took Jesus and had Him flogged.And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and placed it on His head, and put a purple cloak on Him;and they repeatedly came up to Him and said,“ Hail, King of the Jews!” and slapped Him in the face again and again.And then Pilate came out again and* said to them,“ See, I am bringing Him out to you so that you will know that I find no grounds at all for charges in His case.”Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate* said to them,“ Behold, the Man!”

And they* dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;and they began saluting Him:“ Hail, King of the Jews!”And they repeatedly beat His head with a reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they* led Him out to crucify Him.

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

Then the entire assembly of them set out and brought Him before Pilate.

But when He said this, one of the officers, who was standing nearby, struck Jesus, saying,“ Is that the way You answer the high priest?”

Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders, scribes, and the entire Council immediately held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led Him away, and turned Him over to Pilate.

Then they* brought Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter the Praetorium, so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

Pilate answered,“ I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me; what have You done?”
