“ I tell you, the tax collector went home accepted by God. But not the Pharisee. All those who lift themselves up will be made humble. And those who make themselves humble will be lifted up.”

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

He said to them,“ You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar.

He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.

He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.

For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy:“ I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.

She said,“ May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

Now I know that the Lord is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly.”

When people are brought low and you say,‘ Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast.

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.

Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.

But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man,“ I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.

But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

“ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

How then can a mortal be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted( and they will be humbled),for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan,for all the towering mountains and all the high hills,for every lofty tower and every fortified wall,for every trading ship and every stately vessel.The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,

“ See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness—

Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you.

Do you have an arm like God’s, and can your voice thunder like his?Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low,look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand.Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.

But all the descendants of Israel will find deliverance in the Lord and will make their boast in him.

Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven— as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”The other guests began to say among themselves,“ Who is this who even forgives sins?”Jesus said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.
