法利赛人站着，自言自语地祷告说：‘神啊，我感谢你，我不像别人勒索、不义、奸淫，也不像这个税吏。

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other people— robbers, evildoers, adulterers— or even like this tax collector.

爾祈禱時、亦勿效虛偽之徒；蓋若輩喜立於堂中街頭、而作祈禱、故令人見。吾實語爾、彼已獲其報矣。

方立而禱也凡有所負於爾者、悉宜恕之、則在天乃父、亦恕爾過、

若一味偏心、妄分厚薄、是即犯罪、不容於法。守全法而犯一誡者、亦為犯法。蓋誡爾毋犯姦淫者、天主也；而誡爾毋殺人者、亦天主也。爾即未犯姦淫、而犯殺人、是亦犯法而已矣。爾之言語行動、均須以自由之法為圭臬。

爾自謂富有、綽有餘裕、而無所欠缺；殊不知爾實為百無聊賴、貧窮不堪、盲而裸者。

夫爾之優越、孰令致之？爾所有之一切、何一而非受之於主耶？既有所受、又安得自誇其所有、一若未之受耶？今爾等已饜足矣、爾等已富裕矣、駸駸乎將捨吾儕而獨立稱王矣。然吾固願爾等之真能為王、而使我輩亦得彈冠相慶、揚眉吐氣也！

肅肅守主宅。雍雍立主庭。

竊思基督耶穌以吾為忠實之徒、令供斯役、且予我以扶植、賜我以神力；此恩此德、昊天罔極。我本為褻瀆天主、摧殘教會、倨傲無禮之人、而竟蒙天主之矜憐者、蓋以我當時未有信德、盲目而行耳。今則吾主之聖寵、沛然充溢、膏澤吾身、俾我得仰體基督之心、信德愛德、日充日新。吾人常言、基督之降生斯世、為救罪人也。旨哉言乎、不我欺也。而罪人之中、吾其尤著者也。然吾之所以蒙矜憐者、蓋基督耶穌欲以我為先例、以昭示其無荒不包之雅量、庶幾後之信者、聞風而興、以承永生。

如望見法利塞及撒杜責之徒、亦群來受洗、訓之曰：『蝮種、誰警爾以避將臨之怒耶？務宜進而結實、以副悔悟之心。毋思吾輩有亞伯漢為我祖先；蓋吾語爾、天主全能、即欲化此頑石為亞伯漢之子孫、亦易如反掌耳。方今斧斤已加於樹根、凡不結嘉實之樹、必伐而投諸火中。

凌占孤寒之產、而以長禱為矯飾之具、此輩之受譴、必有異乎尋常者焉。』

若夫徒恃律法者、則實處於咒咀之下。經不云乎：『凡不遵行律法之一切規定者、應服咒詛。』

予在宗徒中、為後生小子、實不堪稱為宗徒；以予曾窘辱聖教會故。吾之得有今日、皆賴天主之寵佑；惟予黽勉勞苦、視他人有過無不及、則未辜負天主之寵佑也。雖然、是亦天主寵佑而已、初非予之功也。

曰：『何誡？』曰：『毋殺人、毋姦淫、毋偷盜、毋妄證、敬爾父母、愛人如己。』少年曰：『凡此我皆自幼習行；敢問尚虧何事？』

以熱情論、固迫辱聖教會、不遺餘力者也。以守法論、固無懈可擊也。
