弟兄們，關於那時候和日期，不用人寫信給你們，因為你們自己明明知道，主的日子來到會像賊在夜間突然來到一樣。人正說平安穩定的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同陣痛臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕逃脫不了。

然後要對我自己說：你這個人哪，你有許多財物積存，可供多年享用，只管安安逸逸吃喝快樂吧！』上帝卻對他說：『無知的人哪！今夜就要你的性命，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

「耶和華－你的上帝必領你進他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓要給你的地。那裏有又大又美的城鎮，不是你建造的；有裝滿各樣美物的房屋，不是你裝滿的；有挖成的水井，不是你挖的；有葡萄園、橄欖園，不是你栽植的；你吃了而且飽足。你要謹慎，免得你忘記領你從埃及地為奴之家出來的耶和華。

當那日，萬軍之主耶和華使人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。看哪，人卻歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒：「讓我們吃吃喝喝吧！因為明天要死了。」萬軍之耶和華開啟我的耳朵：「這罪孽直到你們死，斷不得赦免！」這是萬軍之主耶和華說的。

亞比該到拿八那裏，看哪，他在家裏擺設宴席，如同王的宴席。拿八心情舒暢，酩酊大醉。所以亞比該大小事都沒有告訴他，直等到早晨天亮的時候。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子把這些事都告訴他，他就發心臟病快死了，僵如石頭。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

我心慌亂，驚恐威嚇我。我所渴望的黃昏，反成為我的恐懼。

免得你吃得飽足，建造上好的房屋，住在其中，你的牛羊增多，你的金銀增多，你擁有的一切全都增多，於是你的心高傲，忘記耶和華－你的上帝。他曾將你從埃及地為奴之家領出來，

「有一個財主穿着紫色袍和細麻布衣服，天天奢華宴樂。又有一個討飯的，名叫拉撒路，渾身長瘡，被人放在財主門口，想得財主桌子上掉下來的碎食充飢，甚至還有狗來舔他的瘡。後來那討飯的死了，被天使帶去放在亞伯拉罕的懷裏。財主也死了，並且埋葬了。他在陰間受苦，舉目遠遠地望見亞伯拉罕，又望見拉撒路在他懷裏，

他們的家宅平安無懼，上帝的杖不加在他們身上。他們的公牛傳種而不斷絕，母牛生牛犢而不掉胎。他們打發小男孩出去，多如羊羣，他們的孩子踴躍跳舞。他們隨着琴鼓歌唱，因簫聲歡喜。他們度日諸事亨通，在平安中下到陰間。
