然後對自己說，人哪，你有許多財物存放着、做許多年的用處；你安逸度日，喫喝快樂吧！」但上帝卻對他說：「糊塗人哪，就在今天夜裏，你的財物就要要你的命了！你所豫備的、要歸誰呢？」

『永恆主你的上帝領你進他向你列祖、亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各、起誓應許給你的地；那裏有城市、又大又美好、不是你建造的，有房屋裝滿着各樣財物、不是你裝滿的，有鑿成的水池、不是你鑿成的，有葡萄園橄欖園、不是你栽種的；你必有的喫，並且喫得飽足；那時你要謹慎，免得你忘記了永恆主、那把你從埃及地為奴之家領出來的。

當那日子、主萬軍之永恆主叫人哀哭號咷，頭上光禿，腰束麻布；但是你看，人倒歡躍喜樂，宰牛殺羊，喫肉喝酒，說：『只管喫喝吧！因為明天我們就死了！』然而萬軍之永恆主卻親自附耳啓示我，說：『這罪孽即到你們死了也不能得赦除』：這是主萬軍之永恆主說的。

亞比該到了拿八那裏，見他在家裏擺設筵席、如同王的筵席；拿八心裏自感高興，大醉極了；小事大事亞比該全都沒有告訴他、直等到次日早晨天亮的時候。到了早晨，拿八酒醉退了，他妻子才將這些事告訴他，他的心在五內就如死去，他就像石頭一般。過了十天、永恆主擊打了拿八，拿八就死了。

我的心迷迷糊糊，戰慄發抖使我驚惶；我所愛慕的黃昏竟使我恐怖戰兢。

恐怕你有的喫、並喫得飽足，建造美好房屋去居住，你的牛羊加多，你的金銀增添，你所有的全都加增，那時你就心高氣傲，忘記了永恆主你的上帝、那把你從埃及地從為奴之家領出來的。

『有一個財主素常穿着紫色袍和細麻布衣服，天天奢華宴樂。又有一個討飯的名叫拉撒路，躺在他的大門口，生着瘡；巴不得從財主桌子上掉下來的東西以得喫飽。不但如此，連狗還來餂他的瘡呢！那討飯的死了；他被天使帶走，到亞伯拉罕懷裏。那財主也死了，並且埋葬了。他在陰間、一直在痛苦中；一舉目竟望見亞伯拉罕在遠處，拉撒路在亞伯拉罕懷裏呢。

他們的家宅平安無懼，上帝的刑杖未曾打過他們。他們的公牛、傳種而不厭倦；他們的母牛、下犢而不掉胎。他們打發小孩出去、多如羊羣；他們的兒女踴躍舞蹈。他們隨着手鼓和琴而高唱，又因簫笛的聲音而歡喜。他們興隆順遂地消磨了年日，一眨眼就下陰間，毫無痛苦。
