弟兄們，論到時候、日期，不用寫信給你們，因為你們自己明明曉得，主的日子來到，好像夜間的賊一樣。人正說「平安穩妥」的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同產難臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

然後要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你有許多財物積存，可作多年的費用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！』神卻對他說：『無知的人哪，今夜必要你的靈魂；你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

「耶和華－你的神領你進他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許給你的地。那裏有城邑，又大又美，非你所建造的；有房屋，裝滿各樣美物，非你所裝滿的；有鑿成的水井，非你所鑿成的；還有葡萄園、橄欖園，非你所栽種的；你吃了而且飽足。那時你要謹慎，免得你忘記將你從埃及地、為奴之家領出來的耶和華。

當那日，主－萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。誰知，人倒歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：我們吃喝吧！因為明天要死了。萬軍之耶和華親自默示我說：這罪孽直到你們死，斷不得赦免！這是主－萬軍之耶和華說的。

亞比該到拿八那裏，見他在家裏設擺筵席，如同王的筵席；拿八快樂大醉。亞比該無論大小事都沒有告訴他，就等到次日早晨。到了早晨，拿八醒了酒，他的妻將這些事都告訴他，他就魂不附體，身僵如石頭一般。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

我心慌張，驚恐威嚇我。我所羨慕的黃昏，變為我的戰兢。

恐怕你吃得飽足，建造美好的房屋居住，你的牛羊加多，你的金銀增添，並你所有的全都加增，你就心高氣傲，忘記耶和華－你的神，就是將你從埃及地為奴之家領出來的，

「有一個財主穿着紫色袍和細麻布衣服，天天奢華宴樂。又有一個討飯的，名叫拉撒路，渾身生瘡，被人放在財主門口，要得財主桌子上掉下來的零碎充飢，並且狗來舔他的瘡。後來那討飯的死了，被天使帶去放在亞伯拉罕的懷裏。財主也死了，並且埋葬了。他在陰間受痛苦，舉目遠遠地望見亞伯拉罕，又望見拉撒路在他懷裏，

他們的家宅平安無懼；神的杖也不加在他們身上。他們的公牛孳生而不斷絕；母牛下犢而不掉胎。他們打發小孩子出去，多如羊羣；他們的兒女踴躍跳舞。他們隨着琴鼓歌唱，又因簫聲歡喜。他們度日諸事亨通，轉眼下入陰間。
