弟兄姊妹，這件事會在什麼日期、什麼時候發生，不必我寫信告訴你們，因為你們已經清楚知道，將來有一天，主會突然來到，像賊在夜裡忽然出現一樣。當人們正在說一切平安穩妥的時候，災禍會像產痛臨到孕婦一樣突然臨到他們，令他們無法逃脫。

那時，我就可以對自己說，「你積存這麼多財產，一生享用不盡，現在大可高枕無憂、盡情地吃喝玩樂吧！」』但上帝對他說，『無知的人啊！今晚就要取走你的命！你所預備的一切留給誰享用呢？』」

「你們的上帝耶和華將帶你們進入祂向你們祖先亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各起誓要賜給你們的土地。那裡的宏偉城邑不是你們建造的，滿屋的美物不是你們積攢的，井不是你們挖掘的，葡萄園和橄欖樹也不是你們栽種的。你們在那裡吃飽喝足之後，要小心，不可忘記把你們從受奴役之地——埃及救出來的耶和華。

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。但你們還是歡喜作樂，宰牛殺羊，喝酒吃肉，說：「讓我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就死了。」萬軍之耶和華啟示我說：「你們這罪到死也得不到赦免。這是主——萬軍之耶和華說的。」

她回到家時，拿八正在大擺宴席，排場如御宴。她見拿八心情愉快，喝得酩酊大醉，就什麼也沒告訴他，等第二天早上再說。次日清晨，拿八酒醒以後，他妻子把發生的一切告訴他，他嚇得昏死過去，身體僵硬如石。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

我心慌意亂，驚懼不堪，我期盼的黃昏卻令我恐懼。

當你們豐衣足食、居室華美、牛羊眾多、金銀日增的時候，切勿心驕氣傲，忘記你們的上帝耶和華。祂把你們從受奴役之地——埃及救出來，

耶穌又說：「有個財主天天衣著華麗，生活奢侈。又有一個名叫拉撒路的乞丐身上長滿了膿瘡，被人放在財主家門口。他渴望吃到財主桌上掉下來的食物殘渣，卻只有狗來舔他的瘡。「後來，乞丐死了，天使帶他到亞伯拉罕身邊。財主也死了，被人埋葬了。他在陰間受折磨，抬頭遠遠地看見亞伯拉罕和他身邊的拉撒路，

他們家中平安無懼，他們不被上帝杖打。他們的公牛繁殖力強，他們的母牛從不掉胎。他們讓孩童像羊群一樣走到戶外，盡情地歡跳。他們伴著鈴鼓和豎琴歌唱，在笛聲中歡喜不已。他們一生幸福，安然下到陰間。
