While the people were listening to these things, Jesus proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.

Jesus replied,“ My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”

So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him,“ Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”He told them,“ You are not permitted to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will raise up an everlasting kingdom that will not be destroyed and a kingdom that will not be left to another people. It will break in pieces and bring about the demise of all these kingdoms. But it will stand forever.

Then people will say to you,‘ Look, there he is!’ or‘ Look, here he is!’ Do not go out or chase after them.For just like the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.

“ The law and the prophets were in force until John; since then, the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is urged to enter it.

Therefore he told me,“ These signify the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:‘ Not by strength and not by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD who rules over all.”

‘ Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this: The kingdom of God has come.’
