Do not be afraid when a person gets rich, when the wealth of his house increases.For when he dies, he will take nothing at all; his wealth will not follow him down.Though he blesses himself during his lifetime— and you are acclaimed when you do well for yourself—he will go to the generation of his ancestors; they will never see the light.

One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus.

For the sun rises and, together with the scorching wind, dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance perishes. In the same way, the rich person will wither away while pursuing his activities.

They trust in their wealth and boast of their abundant riches.Yet these cannot redeem a person or pay his ransom to God—since the price of redeeming him is too costly, one should forever stop trying—so that he may live forever and not see the Pit.For one can see that the wise die; the foolish and stupid also pass away. Then they leave their wealth to others.Their graves are their permanent homes, their dwellings from generation to generation, though they have named estates after themselves.But despite his assets, mankind will not last; he is like the animals that perish.

“ See to it that you don’t despise one of these little ones, because I tell you that in heaven their angels continually view the face of my Father in heaven.

They spend their days in prosperity and go down to Sheol in peace.

Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation?

For he will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways.They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

In such circumstances, I saw the wicked buried. They came and went from the holy place, and they were praised in the city where they did those things. This too is futile.

What are you doing here? Who authorized you to carve out a tomb for yourself here, carving your tomb on the height and cutting a resting place for yourself out of rock?

Indeed, you put them in slippery places; you make them fall into ruin.How suddenly they become a desolation! They come to an end, swept away by terrors.Like one waking from a dream, Lord, when arising, you will despise their image.

The righteous person perishes, and no one takes it to heart; the faithful are taken away, with no one realizing that the righteous person is taken away because of evil.He will enter into peace— they will rest on their beds— everyone who lives uprightly.

He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

All the kings of the nations lie in splendor, each in his own tomb.

So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked,“ Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray you?”

Now I would certainly be lying down in peace; I would be asleep. Then I would be at restwith the kings and counselors of the earth, who rebuilt ruined cities for themselves,or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.Or why was I not hidden like a miscarried child, like infants who never see daylight?There the wicked cease to make trouble, and there the weary find rest.The captives are completely at rest; they do not hear a taskmaster’s voice.Both small and great are there, and the slave is set free from his master.

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

Then he went in, ate and drank, and said,“ Take care of this cursed woman and bury her, since she’s a king’s daughter.”But when they went out to bury her, they did not find anything but the skull, the feet, and the hands.

Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death— that is, the devil—

Indeed, the evil person is spared from the day of disaster, rescued from the day of wrath.Who would denounce his behavior to his face? Who would repay him for what he has done?He is carried to the grave, and someone keeps watch over his tomb.

the field is the world; and the good seed— these are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom all who cause sin and those guilty of lawlessness.They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Let anyone who has ears listen.

I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
