因為約翰來指示你們當行的正路，你們不信他，但稅吏和娼妓信了。你們親眼看見了這些事，竟然還是執迷不悟，不肯信他。

「悔改吧，因為天國臨近了！」

你們究竟想看什麼？看先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們，他不只是先知。聖經上說，『看啊，我要差遣我的使者在你前面為你預備道路。』這裡所指的就是約翰。我告訴你們，凡婦人所生的，沒有一個比約翰大，但上帝國中最微不足道的也比他大。」眾百姓和稅吏聽了這番話，都承認上帝是公義的，因為他們接受了約翰的洗禮。

腓力去找拿但業，對他說：「我們遇見了摩西律法書和先知書記載的那位！祂是約瑟的兒子耶穌，從拿撒勒來的。」

「你們要邊走邊傳，『天國臨近了！』

從那時起，耶穌開始傳道：「悔改吧，因爲天國臨近了！」

約翰被捕後，耶穌來到加利利宣講上帝的福音，說：

「從撒母耳到後來的所有先知都宣告過這些日子。你們是先知的子孫，也承受了上帝和你們祖先所立的約。上帝曾對亞伯拉罕說，『天下萬族必因你的後裔而蒙福。』

『就連你們城裡的塵土粘在我們腳上，我們都要跺掉，但是要知道，上帝的國臨近了。』

但是上帝早已藉眾先知預言基督要受害，這事果然應驗了。

要醫治那城裡的病人，告訴他們，『上帝的國臨近你們了。』

又差遣他們出去宣講上帝國的福音、醫治病人。

「亞伯拉罕說，『如果他們不聽從摩西和眾先知的話，即使一個人從死裡復活，他們也不會信服。』」

「但是亞伯拉罕卻說，『他們可以聽從摩西和眾先知的話呀！』

如果讓祂這樣繼續下去，所有的人都會信祂，那時羅馬人一定會來奪取我們的土地，擄掠我們的人民。」

法利賽人彼此議論說：「我們真是枉費心思！你看，整個世界都跟著祂跑了。」

耶穌走遍加利利，在各個會堂裡教導人，宣講天國的福音，醫治人們各樣的疾病。

但那人離開之後，卻到處傳揚這件事，以致耶穌無法再公開進城。祂只能待在城外的曠野，可是人們仍從各處來找祂。
