『一個人不能做兩個主人的奴僕；因為他若不是厭惡這一個而愛那一個，就是會依附這一個而不顧那一個：你們不能又做上帝的奴僕，又做錢財的奴僕。

變節的人哪！豈不知與世界為友、就是與上帝為敵麼？所以凡想要做世界朋友的，就把自己立為上帝之仇敵了。

『人來找我，除非少愛自己的父親、母親、妻子、弟兄、姐妹、甚至於自己的性命、就不能做我的門徒。

因為順着肉體行的、意念着肉體的事；順着靈行的、意念着靈的事。肉體的意念是死；靈的意念乃是生命與平安。因為肉體的意念跟上帝為敵，不順服於上帝之律法，也實在不能順服：在肉體裏生活的人總不能使上帝喜歡。

倘若你們以事奉永恆主為不好，那麼你們今日就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：到底是你們列祖在大河那邊所事奉的神呢？還是你們住於其地的亞摩利人的神呢？至於我和我的家呢、我們是必定事奉永恆主的。』

不同着我的、就是敵我；不同我收集的、就是分散。

我告訴你們，要用不義的錢財結交朋友，到了錢財無用的時候，你們便可以被接納到永世的帳幕裏去。

耶穌對他說：『撒但退去！因為有記着說：「要拜主你的上帝，單單事奉他。」』

豈不曉得、你們獻上自己做奴僕聽從誰，就給誰做奴僕聽從誰：或是做罪的奴僕、以至於死，或是做聽從之奴僕、以至於成義麼？感謝上帝，你們雖曾做罪的奴僕，卻已從心裏聽從你們所被傳授的教訓系統，已得自由脫離了罪、給義做奴僕了。我因了你們肉體之軟弱、且照人類的說法來講：你們從前怎樣將你們的肢體獻給污穢和不法做奴僕、以至於不法，如今也當怎樣將你們的肢體獻給義做奴僕、以至於聖化。你們從前給罪做奴僕的時候，是自由自主不受義約束的。那麼、你們當時得了甚麼果子呢？無非是你們如今所看為羞恥的事罷了：那些事的結局就是死。但如今呢、你們既得自由、脫離了罪、給上帝做奴僕，就有果子以至於聖化了：那結局乃是永生。

耶穌對他說：『別禁止了，因為不敵你們的、就是助你們。』
