“如果有人到我這裡來，愛我不超過愛（“愛我不超過愛”原文作“不恨”）自己的父母、妻子、兒女、兄弟、姊妹，甚至自己的性命，就不能作我的門徒。

隨從肉體的人，以肉體的事為念；隨從聖靈的人，以聖靈的事為念。以肉體為念就是死，以聖靈為念就是生命、平安；因為以肉體為念就是與神為仇，既不服從神的律法，也的確不能夠服從；屬肉體的人不能得神的喜悅。

如果你們認為事奉耶和華不好，那麼今日你們就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：是你們列祖在大河那邊事奉的神呢，還是你們現在所住亞摩利人之地的神呢？至於我和我家，我們必事奉耶和華。”

不站在我這一邊的就是反對我的；不跟從一起收聚的就是分散的。

我告訴你們，要用不義的錢財（“錢財”亞蘭文是“瑪門”）去結交朋友，好叫錢財無用的時候，他們可以接你們到永恆的帳棚裡。

但耶穌說：“撒但，走開！經上記著：‘當拜主你的神，單要事奉他。’”

難道你們不知道你們自願作奴僕去順從人，順從誰就作誰的奴僕，或作罪的奴僕以致於死，或作順從的奴僕以致於義嗎？感謝神，你們雖然作過罪的奴僕，現在卻從心裡順從了傳授給你們的教義的規範。你們既然從罪裡得了釋放，就作了義的奴僕。因為你們肉體的弱點，我就按一般人的話來說，你們從前怎樣把你們的肢體獻給不潔和不法作奴僕，以致於不法，現在也要照樣把你們的肢體獻給義作奴僕，以致於成聖。你們作罪的奴僕的時候，就不受義的約束。那麼，你們在現今以為羞恥的事上，當時得了甚麼呢？那些事的結局就是死。現在你們既然從罪裡得了釋放，作了神的奴僕，就有成聖的果子，那結局就是永生。

耶穌說：“不要禁止他，因為不反對你們的，就是贊成你們的。”
