But he answered his father,‘ Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

他回答他父親說：「你看，我服事了你這麼多年，從未疏忽過你的命令；你也從未給過我一隻山羊羔，讓我和我的朋友一同快樂。

他回答父親，說：『你看，我服事你這麼多年，從來沒有違背過你的命令，可是你從來沒有給過我一隻小山羊，好讓我與朋友們一同慶祝。

長子謂父曰、我事爾多年、從無違命、而爾未嘗賜我一羔、俾我與友同樂、

長子曰、我事父有年、未嘗違命、父未嘗以羔賜我、俾得與友同樂、

長子對父曰、我事父多年、未嘗違命、父未以羔賜我、俾我與友同樂、

長子曰：「兒事父有年、未嘗有違、父向未賜兒一羔、與朋儕共讌。

But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve worked like a slave for you. I have always obeyed your orders. You never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

but he answered his father,‘ Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

but he replied,‘ All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.

But he replied to his father,‘ Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.

But he answered and said to his father,‘ Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you never gave me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends;

So he answered and said to his father,‘ Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.

And he answering said to[ his] father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

but he answered his father,‘ Look! These many years I have worked like a slave for you, and I never disobeyed your commands. Yet you never gave me even a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends!

The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men, extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways. As a nation that did righteousness, and didn’t forsake the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments. They delight to draw near to God.‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say,‘ and you don’t see? Why have we afflicted our soul, and you don’t notice?’“ Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and oppress all your laborers.

I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

though I myself might have confidence even in the flesh. If any other man thinks that he has confidence in the flesh, I yet more:circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;concerning zeal, persecuting the assembly; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless.

For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Even so you also, when you have done all the things that are commanded you, say,‘ We are unworthy servants. We have done our duty.’”

You know the commandments:‘ Don’t commit adultery,’‘ Don’t murder,’‘ Don’t steal,’‘ Don’t give false testimony,’‘ Honor your father and your mother.’”He said,“ I have observed all these things from my youth up.”

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.

Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.

saying,‘ These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat!’

Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him,“ You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”Samuel said,“ Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”

who say,‘ Stay by yourself, don’t come near to me, for I am holier than you.’ These are smoke in my nose, a fire that burns all day.

You have said,‘ It is vain to serve God;’ and‘ What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully before Yahweh of Armies?

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Because you say,‘ I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing;’ and don’t know that you are the wretched one, miserable, poor, blind, and naked;

I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety- nine righteous people who need no repentance.

“ But you profane it, in that you say,‘ Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’You say also,‘ Behold, what a weariness it is!’ and you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies;“ and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh.

He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.

for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies, and to the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”

Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
