So he answered and said to his father,‘ Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends.

他回答他父親說：「你看，我服事了你這麼多年，從未疏忽過你的命令；你也從未給過我一隻山羊羔，讓我和我的朋友一同快樂。

他回答父親，說：『你看，我服事你這麼多年，從來沒有違背過你的命令，可是你從來沒有給過我一隻小山羊，好讓我與朋友們一同慶祝。

長子謂父曰、我事爾多年、從無違命、而爾未嘗賜我一羔、俾我與友同樂、

長子曰、我事父有年、未嘗違命、父未嘗以羔賜我、俾得與友同樂、

長子對父曰、我事父多年、未嘗違命、父未以羔賜我、俾我與友同樂、

長子曰：「兒事父有年、未嘗有違、父向未賜兒一羔、與朋儕共讌。

But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

But he answered his father,‘ Look! All these years I’ve worked like a slave for you. I have always obeyed your orders. You never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

but he answered his father,‘ Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

but he replied,‘ All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.

But he replied to his father,‘ Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.

But he answered and said to his father,‘ Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you never gave me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends;

But he answered his father,‘ Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’

Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God.‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say,‘ and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’“ In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers.

I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say,‘ We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’”

You know the commandments:‘ Do not commit adultery,’‘ Do not murder,’‘ Do not steal,’‘ Do not bear false witness,’‘ Honor your father and your mother.’”And he said,“ All these things I have kept from my youth.”

“ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”’

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.

saying,‘ These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’

Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him,“ Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”But Samuel said,“ What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”

Who say,‘ Keep to yourself, Do not come near me, For I am holier than you!’ These are smoke in My nostrils, A fire that burns all the day.

You have said,‘ It is useless to serve God; What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, And that we have walked as mourners Before the Lord of hosts?

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Because you say,‘ I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’— and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

“ But you profane it, In that you say,‘ The table of the Lord is defiled; And its fruit, its food, is contemptible.’You also say,‘ Oh, what a weariness!’ And you sneer at it,” Says the Lord of hosts.“ And you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick; Thus you bring an offering! Should I accept this from your hand?” Says the Lord.

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’

and to ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?”

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
