But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were whispering among themselves. They said,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying,“ This man receives sinners and eats with them.”

This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people— even eating with them!

法利賽人看見，就對耶穌的門徒說：『你們的先生為甚麼跟收稅人和「罪人」一同喫飯呢？』

眾人看見，都唧唧咕咕地彼此議論說，『「罪人」家裏、他還進去投宿呢！』

請耶穌的法利賽人看見了，就心裏說：『這個人如果是那位神言人，總會知道纏着他的是誰，是甚麼樣的女人，就是個「罪人」哪。』

人子來了，也喫也喝，你們就說，「看哪，一個貪喫好酒的人！收稅人和『罪人』的朋友！」

『你進了沒有受割禮的人家裏，和他們一同喫飯呀！』

法利賽人和他們的經學士就唧唧咕咕向耶穌的門徒議論說：『你們為甚麼跟收稅人和「罪人」一同喫喝呢？』

因為有幾個從雅各那裏來的人未到之先，他素常和外國人一同喫飯；他們一來到，他因怕屬割禮的人，就退開而自己分別。

我先前在信上給你們寫過，叫你們不可和嫖妓或作男倡的交往，並不是泛指着這世界上所有嫖妓或作男倡的、或貪婪的和勒索人的、或拜偶像的。要那樣，你們就該離開世界才能！其實我寫給你們的是：若有人名為弟兄，實在是嫖妓或作男倡的、或貪婪的、或拜偶像的、或辱罵人的、或醉酒的、或勒索人的，你們就不可和他交往。就是和這樣的人一同喫飯也不可，

他回答他父親說：「你看，我服事了你這麼多年，從未疏忽過你的命令；你也從未給過我一隻山羊羔，讓我和我的朋友一同快樂。但你這個兒子、這同妓女喫盡了你給的養生之資的、一來，你倒為他宰了那隻肥牛犢！」
