Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame!

So Haman came in, and the king said,“ What should I do to honor a man who truly pleases me?” Haman thought to himself,“ Whom would the king wish to honor more than me?”So he replied,“ If the king wishes to honor someone,he should bring out one of the king’s own royal robes, as well as a horse that the king himself has ridden— one with a royal emblem on its head.Let the robes and the horse be handed over to one of the king’s most noble officials. And let him see that the man whom the king wishes to honor is dressed in the king’s robes and led through the city square on the king’s horse. Have the official shout as they go,‘ This is what the king does for someone he wishes to honor!’”“ Excellent!” the king said to Haman.“ Quick! Take the robes and my horse, and do just as you have said for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the gate of the palace. Leave out nothing you have suggested!”So Haman took the robes and put them on Mordecai, placed him on the king’s own horse, and led him through the city square, shouting,“ This is what the king does for someone he wishes to honor!”Afterward Mordecai returned to the palace gate, but Haman hurried home dejected and completely humiliated.

“ Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign Lord:“ In your great pride you claim,‘ I am a god! I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.’ But you are only a man and not a god, though you boast that you are a god.You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel and think no secret is hidden from you.With your wisdom and understanding you have amassed great wealth— gold and silver for your treasuries.Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich, and your riches have made you very proud.“ Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you think you are as wise as a god,I will now bring against you a foreign army, the terror of the nations. They will draw their swords against your marvelous wisdom and defile your splendor!They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die in the heart of the sea, pierced with many wounds.Will you then boast,‘ I am a god!’ to those who kill you? To them you will be no god but merely a man!You will die like an outcast at the hands of foreigners. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

As he looked out across the city, he said,‘ Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’“ While these words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven,‘ O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom.You will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.’“ That same hour the judgment was fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society. He ate grass like a cow, and he was drenched with the dew of heaven. He lived this way until his hair was as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails were like birds’ claws.“ After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.
