傲慢來，恥辱也來；謙遜人卻有智慧在心。

先狂傲、然後遭破毁；先有高傲之氣、然後就跌倒。

智慧人必承受尊榮以為業；愚頑人必自取羞辱。

哈曼進來，王問他說：『王所喜歡賜顯貴的人、王該怎樣待他？』哈曼心裏說：『王所喜歡賜顯貴的人、除了我以外，還有誰呢？』於是哈曼回答說：『王所喜歡賜顯貴的人、人應該將王所常穿的朝服、王所常騎的馬、頭上戴有王冕的、帶進來；將朝服和馬交在王最顯達的大臣中的一個人手下，好讓人使給王所喜歡賜顯貴的人穿上，使他在城裏廣場上騎上那馬，讓人在他面前宣告說：「王所喜歡賜顯貴的人應該這樣受款待。」』王對哈曼說：『趕快帶朝服和馬、照你所說的、去款待那坐在御門前的猶大人末底改；凡你所說的、一樣也不可躐下。』於是哈曼將朝服給末底改穿上，將馬給他在城裏廣場上騎上，又在他面前宣告說：『王所喜歡顯貴的人應該這樣受款待。』末底改仍回到御門那裏；哈曼卻急急忙忙地回家去，帶着悲哀的心情，又蒙着頭。

『人子啊，你要對推羅的人君說：主永恆主這麼說：『因你心裏高傲，說：「我乃是神；我在海中心，坐神的寶座」；其實你不過是人，並不是神，儘管你居心、自以為有神的心機。——哼，你居然比但以理還有智慧！任何祕密事你看都不模糊；靠着你的智慧聰明，你為自己得了資財；你得了金銀收入你的府庫；靠着你作生意的大智慧你增大了你的資財，你竟因你的資財而心裏高傲！——就因這樣，故此主永恆主這麼說：你居心既自以為有神的心機，那麼你就看吧，我必導引外族人、列國中的強橫人、來攻擊你；他們拔刀來砍壞你用智慧得來的美麗，污辱你的光華。他們必使你下冥坑；死在海中心，像被刺死的人那樣的死。在殺你者面前你還能說：「我是神」麼？在刺殺你者手中你不過是人，並不是神呀。你必死在外族人手中，像沒受割禮的人那樣的死；因為是我說了，主永恆主發神諭說。』

王應時說：『這豈不是大巴比倫，我用我財力的權勢所建築、做王家宮殿，要顯示我威嚴之光榮的麼？』這話在王口中，還未說完，就有聲音從天上傳下來，說：『尼布甲尼撒王啊，有神言是對你說的：國權已經離開了你了。你必被趕逐離開人類，你的住處必同山野的走獸在一起；你必受迫而喫草如牛，經過七個時期，等到你承認至高者在人國中掌權，他喜歡將國賜給誰，就賜給誰。』立刻地、這神言就應驗到尼布甲尼撒身上了。他即被趕逐離開人類，喫草如牛，其身體被天露滴濕，以致其頭髮長長像鷹毛，其指甲如同鳥爪。『日子過後，我尼布甲尼撒舉目望天，我的悟性恢復過來，我便祝頌那至高者，稱頌那活到永遠的上帝，而歸榮耀於他：因為他的權柄是永遠的權柄，他的國度代代長存。
