When Haman entered, the king asked him,“ What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?” Now Haman thought to himself,“ Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?”So he answered the king,“ For the man the king delights to honor,have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head.Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him,‘ This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!’”“ Go at once,” the king commanded Haman.“ Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.”So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him,“ This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!”Afterward Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. Is no secret hidden from you?By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries.By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud.“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god,I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendor.They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas.Will you then say,“ I am a god,” in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a mortal, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you.You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)

he said,“ Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven,“ This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. (niv)
