他的臣僕對他說：「我們聽說以色列王都是仁慈的王，現在我們不如腰束麻布，頭套繩索，出去投降以色列王，或者他存留王的性命。」於是他們腰束麻布，頭套繩索，去見以色列王，說：「王的僕人便‧哈達說，求王存留我的性命。」亞哈說：「他還活着嗎？他是我的兄弟。」這些人留心探出他的口氣來，便急忙就着他的話說：「便‧哈達是王的兄弟！」王說：「你們去請他來。」便‧哈達出來見王，王就請他上車。便‧哈達對王說：「我父從你父那裏所奪的城邑，我必歸還。你可以在大馬士革立街市，像我父在撒馬利亞所立的一樣。」亞哈說：「我照此立約，放你回去」，就與他立約，放他去了。

他們卻甚懼怕，彼此說：「二王在他面前尚且站立不住，我們怎能站得住呢？」家宰、邑宰，和長老，並教養眾子的人，打發人去見耶戶，說：「我們是你的僕人，凡你所吩咐我們的都必遵行，我們不立誰作王，你看怎樣好就怎樣行。」

你有神那樣的膀臂嗎？你能像他發雷聲嗎？

但他賜更多的恩典，所以經上說：神阻擋驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人。故此，你們要順服神。務要抵擋魔鬼，魔鬼就必離開你們逃跑了。你們親近神，神就必親近你們。有罪的人哪，要潔淨你們的手！心懷二意的人哪，要清潔你們的心！你們要愁苦、悲哀、哭泣，將喜笑變作悲哀，歡樂變作愁悶。務要在主面前自卑，主就必叫你們升高。

你同告你的對頭去見官，還在路上，務要盡力地和他了結；恐怕他拉你到官面前，官交付差役，差役把你下在監裏。
