“ Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

約書亞對百姓說：「你們不能事奉耶和華，因為他是神聖的上帝，是忌邪的上帝，必不赦免你們的過犯罪惡。你們若離棄耶和華去事奉外邦的神明，耶和華在降福之後，必轉而降禍給你們，把你們滅絕。」百姓對約書亞說：「不，我們要事奉耶和華。」約書亞對百姓說：「你們選擇耶和華，要事奉他，你們自己作證吧！」他們說：「我們願意作證。」「現在，你們要除掉你們中間外邦的神明，專心歸向耶和華－以色列的上帝。」百姓對約書亞說：「我們必事奉耶和華－我們的上帝，聽從他的話。」

而且你們要為我的名被眾人憎恨。但堅忍到底的終必得救。

這樣，你們無論甚麼人，若不撇下一切所有的，就不能作我的門徒。」

耶穌說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有枕頭的地方。」

於是保羅回答：「你們為甚麼這樣痛哭，使我心碎呢？我為主耶穌的名，不但被人捆綁，就是死在耶路撒冷也是願意的。」

我們在你們那裏的時候，曾預先告訴你們，我們必受患難；你們知道，這果然發生了。為此，既然我不能再忍，就差派人去，要知道你們的信心如何，恐怕那誘惑人的果真誘惑了你們，以致我們的勞苦歸於徒然。

耶穌回答：「你們不知道所求的是甚麼。我將要喝的杯，你們能喝嗎？」他們對他說：「我們能。」耶穌說：「我所喝的杯，你們要喝。可是坐在我的左右，不是我可以賜的，而是我父為誰預備就賜給誰。」

我認為趁我還在這帳棚的時候，應該激發你們的記憶，因為知道我脫離這帳棚的時候快到了，正如我們的主耶穌基督所指示我的。

他們說：「來，讓我們建造一座城和一座塔，塔頂通天。我們要為自己立名，免得我們分散在全地面上。」耶和華降臨，要看世人所建造的城和塔。耶和華說：「看哪，他們成了同一個民族，都有一樣的語言。這只是他們開始做的事，現在他們想要做的任何事，就沒有甚麼可攔阻他們了。來，我們下去，在那裏變亂他們的語言，使他們彼此語言不通。」於是耶和華使他們從那裏分散在全地面上；他們就停止建造那城了。因為耶和華在那裏變亂了全地的語言，把人從那裏分散在全地面上，所以那城名叫巴別。
