“ Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?

“ Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you sit down first and figure out how much it will cost? Then you will see whether you have enough money to finish it.

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

“ But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?

“ For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?

你要在外頭豫備你所作的，在田間自己準備停當，然後娶妻，建立家室。

約書亞對人民說：『你們不能事奉永恆主；因為他是聖別的上帝；他是忌邪的上帝；他必不赦免你們的過犯罪惡。倘若你們離棄了永恆主，去事奉外族人的神，那麼永恆主在使你們得福之後，就一定轉而降禍與你們、把你們都滅盡。』人民對約書亞說：『不；我們總要事奉永恆主。』約書亞對人民說：『你們為自己選擇了永恆主、要事奉他：你們對自己作證吧。』他們說：『我們願意作證。』約書亞說：那麼『現在你們要除掉你們中間外族人的神，傾心歸向永恆主以色列的上帝。』人民對約書亞說：『永恆主我們的上帝、我們要事奉；他的聲音、我們要聽從。』

你們必為我的名被眾人恨惡；惟獨堅忍到末終的，才能得救。

所以這樣：你們各人、凡不跟自己的一切資財訣絕的，都不能做我的門徒。

耶穌對他說：『狐狸有洞，空中的飛鳥有窩，惟獨人子沒有枕頭的地方！』

於是保羅回答說：『你們幹麼哭、使我心碎呢？為了主耶穌的名、不但被捆綁、就是死在耶路撒冷、我都準備作的。』

我們在你們那裏的時候，就屢次先告訴你們說、我們將會受患難；事實正如所說的，你們也知道。為了這緣故、我再也忍受不住了，就打發人去、要知道你們的信心怎樣，恐怕那試誘者試誘了你們，我們的勞苦就落了空。

耶穌回答說：『你們所求的、你們不曉得。我將要喝的杯，你們能喝麼？』他們對他說：『我們能。』耶穌對他們說：『我的杯、你們固然要喝；但坐在我右邊或左邊，不是我可以賜的，乃是我父為誰豫備了，就給誰。』

我以為儘我還在這帳幕的時候，以提醒來激發你們、是正當的。因為知道我這帳幕脫卸的時候快到了，正如我們主耶穌基督所指示我的。

便說：『來吧，我們建造一座城和一座塔；塔頂通天，我們須要為自己立名，免得分散在全地上。』永恆主下來，要看看人類所造的城和塔，永恆主說：『看哪，他們只是一族之民，有一樣的口音；如今既作起這事來，將來他們所圖謀要作的事，就沒有甚麼能攔阻他們了。來，我們下去，就在那裏使他們的口音混亂，不曉得聽彼此的口音。』於是永恆主使他們從那裏分散在全地上；他們就停止、不建造那城了。因為永恆主在那裏使全地的口音混亂，又在那裏使人分散在全地上，故此那城名叫「巴別」。
