愛父母勝過愛我的，不配作我的門徒；愛兒女勝過愛我的，不配作我的門徒。

愛惜自己性命的，就喪失性命；那恨惡自己在這世上的性命的，要保全性命到永生。

不但如此，我已把萬事當作是有損的，因我以認識我主基督耶穌為至寶。我為他已經丟棄萬事，看作糞土，為要贏得基督，

我卻不以性命為念，只要走完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為上帝恩典的福音作見證。

除你以外，在天上我有誰呢？除你以外，在地上我也沒有所愛慕的。我的肉體和我的心腸衰殘；但上帝是我心裏的力量，又是我的福分，直到永遠。

弟兄勝過那條龍是因羔羊的血，和因自己所見證的道。雖然至於死，他們也不惜自己的性命。

「你的同胞兄弟，或是你的兒女，或是你懷中的妻，或是如同自己性命的朋友，若暗中引誘你，說：『我們去事奉別神吧。』那是你和你列祖所不認識的，你四圍列國的神明，無論是離你近或離你遠，從地這邊到地那邊，你都不可附和他，也不要聽從他。你的眼不可顧惜他，不可憐憫他，也不可袒護他。

關於自己的父母，他說：我未曾關注。他的弟兄，他不承認，他的兒女，他也不認識，因為利未人遵行你的話，謹守你的約。

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生的事我都以為煩惱，全是虛空，全是捕風。我恨惡一切的勞碌，就是我在日光之下所勞碌的，因為我所得的必須留給我以後的人。那人是智慧是愚昧，誰能知道呢？他竟要掌管我在日光之下用智慧勞碌所得的。這也是虛空。

雅各也與拉結同房，並且愛拉結勝過愛利亞，於是他又服事了拉班七年。耶和華見利亞失寵，就使她生育，拉結卻不生育。

甚至我寧可窒息死亡，勝似留我這副骨頭。我厭棄生命，不願永遠活着。你任憑我吧，因我的日子都是虛空。

耶和華說：「我曾愛你們。」你們卻說：「你在何事上愛我們呢？」耶和華說：「以掃不是雅各的哥哥嗎？我卻愛雅各，惡以掃，使他的山嶺荒涼，把他的地業交給曠野的野狗。」

正如經上所記：「雅各是我所愛的；以掃是我所惡的。」

「人若有兩個妻子，一個是他寵愛的，另一個是失寵的，她們都給他生了兒子，但長子是他失寵妻子生的；
