『人來找我，除非少愛自己的父親、母親、妻子、弟兄、姐妹、甚至於自己的性命、就不能做我的門徒。

愛父親或母親過於愛我的，配不起我；愛兒子或女兒過於愛我的，配不起我；

惜愛自己性命的、必失掉性命；不惜愛自己性命在這世界上的、必保守性命歸永生。

不但如此，為了要得認識我主基督耶穌——這種認識之至寶，我竟將萬事都看做虧損了；為了他，我已經虧損了一切，看做糞土，為要贏得基督，

但我不為性命作甚麼計算，而看為對自己有價值；比較起來，倒不如完盡了我的跑程、和我從主耶穌所領受的執事職任，鄭重證明上帝恩惠之福音。

你以外、在天上我有誰呢？你以外、在地上我也無所愛慕。我的肉體我的心腸衰殘；但上帝是我心靠的磐石，是我的業分到永遠。

弟兄們勝過他，是因着羔羊的血，因着他們所見證的道；他們又是至死不愛惜性命的。

『你的同母弟兄、或是你的兒子或女兒、或是你懷中的妻子，或是如同你性命的朋友，若暗中教唆你、說：「我們去事奉別的神吧」；這些神是你和你列祖素來所不認識的，是你們四圍別族之民的神。無論是離你近，或是離你遠的神、是從地這邊到地那邊的神。你都不可依順他，不可聽從他；你的眼不可顧惜他；你不要可憐他，不可藏匿他；

對他自己的父母利未是說：我沒有看見；他的弟兄、他不承認，他的兒女、他不認識；因為利未人謹守你說的話，你的約他們恪守着。

故此我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生過的事都使我憂苦；因為都是虛空，都是捕風。我恨惡我一切的勞碌、就是我在日光之下所勞碌的，因為我得來的必須留給我以後的人。那人會有智慧或是愚昧，誰能知道呢？他竟要掌管我勞碌所得的一切，就是我在日光之下用智慧所勞碌得來的：這也是虛空。

雅各也進去找拉結；他並且愛拉結，過於愛利亞；於是他又跟拉班再作七年長工。永恆主見利亞少得寵愛，就開她的子宮使她受孕；而拉結卻不能生育。

以致我寧肯噎死，寧肯死亡，勝似留我這一身骨頭。我厭棄性命；我不願永遠活着；不要管我；因為我的日子都是虛幻。

永恆主說：『我愛了你們。』但你們卻說：『你在甚麼事上愛了我們呢？』永恆主發神諭說：『以掃豈不是雅各的哥哥麼？然而我卻愛了雅各，而不愛以掃：我使以掃的山地荒涼，將他的地業交給曠野的野狗。

正如經上所記：『我愛了雅各，少愛以掃。』

『人若有兩個妻子，一個是所愛的，一個是所不愛的；兩個都給他生了兒子：所愛的和所不愛的都生了；但長子卻是出於所不愛的；
